1. Who we are
Kiddo Safe is a parental control app made by martai (martai.in) (“we”, “us”), the trade name of Nikhil Meena, a sole proprietorship in India: Kashinagar, Ruthiyai, District Guna, Madhya Pradesh 473110, India. We decide how the little information that reaches us is used. You can reach us at support@martai.in.
2. The short version
- There are no accounts. Kiddo Safe works on your kid’s phone on its own, and you manage it on that phone with your parent PIN.
- What Kiddo Safe sees on the phone to do its job (which app is open, web addresses and words on pages, screen time, check-ins) stays on the phone.
- A few things do leave the phone: your email if you add one (to send you a PIN code), crash reports, purchases through Google Play, and the map and street names for check-ins, which come from Google. Section 5 lists all of them.
- We don’t show ads, don’t use analytics or ad trackers, and never sell or share data for advertising.
3. Who Kiddo Safe is for
Kiddo Safe is for parents and legal guardians to install on a phone or tablet used by their own child, or a child in their care. The parent sets it up, chooses the rules and holds the PIN. The child uses the phone and sees Kip, our mascot, explain each rule.
Don’t use Kiddo Safe to watch another adult, or anyone you don’t have the legal right to supervise. Kiddo Safe is never hidden: it shows a notification while it’s on guard, and another while check-ins are on.
4. What Kiddo Safe handles on the phone
To work, Kiddo Safe handles the following on your kid’s phone. It lives in Kiddo Safe’s private storage, which other apps can’t read, and none of it is sent to us, except your email when you ask for a code (section 5).
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| What’s on screen, through Android’s Accessibility service | Which app is open; web addresses, page titles and words on web pages in browsers and in-app browsers; YouTube channel names; some Settings screens. | To block the apps, sites, words and short-video feeds you chose; run the kids home, Bedtime and time limits; and, with Uninstall protection, stop Kiddo Safe being switched off or deleted. Read as it happens and not saved. No browsing history is kept. |
| Screen time, through Usage access | How long each app was used each day, rebuilt from Android’s usage records. | Screen time, Insights, time limits and your kid’s own screen-time view. |
| App switches | When an app was opened. | Launch counts in Insights. |
| Blocked lately | Which app or screen was blocked, the reason and the time. No web addresses. | The Blocked lately list. |
| Check-ins (Premium, off until you switch them on) | Up to every 30 minutes: a screenshot (skipped while the screen is off or locked; Android 11 and newer), a 60-second sound recording from the microphone, and the phone’s last known location. | So you can look back at the last few days on the phone, behind your PIN. They switch themselves off after 3 days. |
| Your kid’s profile | First name, age band and Kip’s colour. | To personalise Kip’s words and the plan. |
| Your rules | Allowed and blocked apps, sites, keywords, YouTube channels, bedtime, time limits. | To apply them. |
| Installed apps | The apps on the phone (name, package, install time). | The app pickers and new-app approval. |
| Your PIN or password | A salted hash (PBKDF2), never the PIN itself, and a count of wrong tries. | To check it’s you. |
| Your email and SOS number, if you add them | As you typed them. | To send PIN codes (section 5). SOS isn’t available yet. |
| Purchase status | Your plan and Google Play’s purchase token. | To know whether Premium is on. |
Kiddo Safe doesn’t ask for the camera, contacts, messages, call log, location in the background, or the advertising ID. Each permission it does use is explained on our Safety and privacy page.
5. What leaves the phone
This is everything that leaves the phone, and when:
| What | When | What’s sent |
|---|---|---|
| Your email (optional) | When you add an email during setup or in Settings, or tap Forgot PIN. | The email address, sent to our server, which emails you a 6-digit code. |
| Crash reports | Automatically, after Kiddo Safe crashes, when the phone is online. | What went wrong (the error and where in the code), app version, time, phone maker and model, Android version, screen size, free memory, and your email if you added one. |
| Purchases | When you buy or restore Premium. | Handled by Google Play under Google’s privacy policy. We don’t receive your payment details. |
| The check-ins map | When you open the map of places or a place’s name is shown. | The locations, to Google, which draws the map (Google Maps) and turns places into street names (Android’s Geocoder). |
| Safe DNS | Once you set Private DNS to the family DNS you picked. | The web addresses the phone looks up, to that DNS provider (Cloudflare for Families or AdGuard Family), under its own policy. |
| Fonts | When the app shows Hindi, Bengali, Arabic, Japanese or Korean. | A font request through Google Play services. |
| More apps | If you open the list of our other apps. | A request to our server for the list and its pictures. No personal data. |
As with any connection, the servers involved see the phone’s IP address. Your kid’s screen, recordings, locations, screen time and browsing are never sent to us.
6. Why we use it
- To provide Kiddo Safe: the on-phone processing in section 4, which you switch on during setup. Where the law asks for a legal basis, this is to perform our agreement with you and, for Accessibility and check-ins, your consent.
- To send PIN codes: your email, because you asked for a code.
- To fix bugs: crash reports, in our legitimate interest in keeping Kiddo Safe working.
- To answer you: the emails you send us.
- To meet legal duties: if the law requires it.
We don’t use your information for advertising or profiling, and we don’t make automated decisions about you or your kid.
7. Who else is involved
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. These providers help us, each for its own part:
- Render hosts our server, which receives code requests and crash reports.
- Google: Google Play (purchases), Google Maps and Android’s Geocoder (the check-ins map), and Google Play services (fonts).
- Cloudflare or AdGuard, only if you set up Safe DNS with them.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a business transfer, in which case this policy keeps applying to it.
8. How long things are kept
| What | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Screen time | On the phone until Kiddo Safe is uninstalled |
| App switches | On the phone, 30 days |
| Blocked lately | On the phone, 8 days |
| Check-ins | On the phone, 3 days, then deleted every day |
| Protected-days streak | On the phone, about 400 days |
| Rules, profile, PIN hash | On the phone, until you change them or uninstall |
| Crash reports (copy on the phone) | On the phone until Kiddo Safe is uninstalled |
| Emails you send us | As long as needed to help you, then deleted |
9. Children’s privacy
Kiddo Safe is used on children’s phones, but it’s set up and controlled by their parent or guardian. Children don’t create accounts or give us information. What Kiddo Safe handles about a child (section 4) stays on the phone, and the parent decides which rules and features are on, including check-ins.
We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children on our servers. If you believe a child’s information reached us, write to support@martai.in and we’ll delete it. If you use check-ins, it’s up to you to use them lawfully where you live, including any rules about recording sound.
10. Your choices and rights
- Switch things off: every rule, check-ins included, can be switched off in the app with your PIN. You can withdraw a permission any time in Android’s Settings.
- Your email: you can leave it out, or change it in Settings.
- Ask us: to see, correct or delete what we hold about you (your email, crash reports and messages), or to object to its use, write to support@martai.in. We’ll answer within one month.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights. In the EU and UK (GDPR) you can also ask to restrict processing or move your data, and complain to your data protection authority. In California, you have the right to know, delete and correct, and not to be treated differently for using them; we don’t sell or share personal information. In India, under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask about, correct or erase your data, nominate someone, and raise a grievance with us, then with the Data Protection Board.
11. Deleting your data
- On the phone: uninstall Kiddo Safe. Android deletes everything it kept. With Uninstall protection on, turn it off first with your PIN. Check-ins also delete themselves after 3 days.
- On our server: email support@martai.in from the address you added, or tell us that address, and we’ll delete the code requests and crash reports linked to it.
12. Security
Kiddo Safe keeps its data in Android’s private app storage, stores your PIN only as a salted hash, and talks to our server over HTTPS. Phone backups to Google include only small app settings, not your PIN, email, screen time or check-ins. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your PIN to yourself, and tell us at support@martai.in if you find a problem.
13. Where data is processed
Our server and providers may process the information in section 5 in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
14. Changes to this policy
When Kiddo Safe’s use of data changes, we’ll update this policy first and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll also say so in the app.
15. Contact us
